"Lake Asbury Plan -- Minus controversy"

The Clay County Commission has unanimously rescinded its July decision to include in the Lake Asbury master development plan a controversial outer beltway route through the Black Creek Ravines Conservation Area.

The commission's inclusion of the route was one of reasons cited by the state Department of Community Affairs in its rejection of the plan.

Please take time to read this article that appeared in the Metro Section of the Florida Times Union. This is good news but I would draw your attention to the last paragraph in which Teresa Monson of SJRWMD says, " the water management district is open to searching alternatives with DOT for accommodating a future highway on part of the Conservation area. She said the district would not act on such a proposal without presenting it first to the public for comment."

A newsletter article

appeared in the Florida Times Unions Metro Section on Monday, February 21st. This only serves to magnify the importance of our meeting on Monday, February 28th;7:00PM at Middleburg United Methodist Church.

It is apparent that those who wish the Outer Beltway to go through the Conservation are continuing to bring forth any idea that will make us think this route is the most beneficial for our county. We the people will not benefit from the transfer of PUBLIC LAND into private ownership. Once this happens, there are no guarantees.

Their new plan also unabashedly says that they would hope to have the Outer Beltway run through the property. THIS IS A TRAVESTY. Why do we, the citizens of Clay County, want to sent a precedent allowing the transfer of PUBLIC LAND (The Conservation Area was bought with Save Our Rivers Bond money) into private ownership????

PLEASE BE AT THE MEETING! PLEASE EMAIL THE COMMISSIONERS, FDOT and SJRWMD in opposition to this latest plan. Links to these groups can be found on this web.

Thank you.
